It’s Effective

The COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be more than 90 percent effective in preventing people who receive both doses from getting sick or becoming seriously ill.

COVID-19 vaccine administered by the Southern Nevada Health District will be provided at no-cost. Private providers may charge an administrative fee. This can be billed to insurance or Medicare/Medicaid.

  • The COVID-19 vaccines currently offered will require two shots, administered three to four weeks apart, to provide the best protection.
  • Before they were offered to the public, thousands of people volunteered to take part in clinical trials to test the safety and efficacy of the vaccines. These volunteers included thousands of people from communities of color, including Black and Hispanic individuals who participated in the clinical trials.
  • After receiving the vaccine, you still need to take other preventive measures. These include wearing a mask, social distancing, frequent handwashing, and other hygiene practices.
  • The vaccine is currently not offered to pregnant women and children. Vaccine manufacturers are expanding their testing. Once additional data is available, the recommendations will be updated.
